Cricket's Three Formats and Popular Tournaments

Audiences in Bangladesh are familiar with all three formats of cricket — but from a betting perspective each is different because the nature of the result varies.

T20

Only 20 overs per innings, so results change quickly. BPL and IPL are the most popular T20 leagues among bettors. Markets are open for every Bangladesh Tigers match at the T20 World Cup.

Fast Results BPL • IPL

ODI

In this 50-over format matches are longer, so betting markets are broader. Odds move around partnerships, dot-ball periods or after the powerplay. The ICC Champions Trophy and Asia Cup receive the most attention here.

50 Overs ICC • Asia Cup

Test

In this five-day format a draw is a valid result, so the match winner market has three options. Betting by wicket, session or day requires a different approach in Test cricket. Preferred by patient bettors.

7 Popular Betting Markets

Cricket betting at tk10 goes beyond just match winner — there are many more markets available. Here is a simple explanation of how each one works.

Match Winner

Which team will win the match — this is the most straightforward market. Your bet wins if Team A wins or Team B wins. In Test cricket, a draw is also an option.

Simple

Toss Winner

A bet on which team will win the toss before the match starts. The result is entirely chance-based — no statistics are useful here.

Chance-Based

Top Batsman

Which batsman will score the most runs in an innings or across the whole match. You can pick any batsman and place a bet at good odds.

Individual Performance

Total Runs (Over/Under)

Whether a team's total runs will be above or below a set number (e.g. 165). Example: whether Team A's total runs will be more than 165.

Over/Under

Top Wicket Taker

Which bowler will take the most wickets in the match. On spin-friendly pitches the odds on this market can be attractive.

Bowler Focus

Multi Bet

Combining multiple selections into one bet. Example: betting on the match winner of three separate matches at once multiplies the odds, making the potential payout larger — but if any one loses, the entire bet is lost.

Multiple Selections

Handicap Betting

To reduce the gap between two teams, the weaker team is given a virtual head start in runs or wickets. Example: if Team B is given a 25-run head start, that amount is added to the final result for settlement purposes. There is no fixed return to calculate here — it is straightforward: the margin is added or subtracted from the result.

Runs in the First Over

A bet on how many total runs will be scored in the first over. This market is quite common because fewer fielders are placed outside the powerplay. In T20 it is one of the most popular in-play options.

How to Read Odds

Odds are written in three formats — decimal, fractional and American. Each one presents the same information in a different way.

Format Example How to Read
Decimal 3.00 Multiply your stake by this number to get the total return — including profit.
Fractional 2/1 The right number is the stake, the left number is the profit. 2/1 means ৳100 bet wins ৳200 profit.
American +200 Plus means how much profit a ৳100 bet makes. Minus means how much you need to bet to make ৳100 profit.

Example 1 — The Same Odds in Three Formats

Suppose Team A wins, stake ৳500.
Decimal 3.00 = Fractional 2/1 = American +200
Total return if won: ৳1,500 (৳1,000 profit + ৳500 stake).
If lost, ৳500 is gone. The three numbers are just different ways of writing the same odds.

Example 2 — Favourite's Odds

Team B is more likely to win, so the odds are lower.
Decimal 1.25 = Fractional 1/4 = American -400
৳500 bet returns ৳625 (profit of only ৳125).
American minus odds show how much you need to bet to make ৳100 profit.

Football and Other Sports

Alongside cricket at tk10, you will also find markets for football and other sports.

Football Betting

Betting markets are available for major leagues and tournaments in world football. The key difference from cricket is that in football a draw is always a separate result, so the match winner market usually has three options — Team A wins, Team B wins, or draw. In T20 cricket there is no draw, so only two options exist. Football also has no moment like a wicket — odds change after a goal or a card. Scoreline prediction markets are more common in football and are rarely seen in cricket.

Live In-Play Betting — From Wickets to Overs

Odds keep changing while a match is in progress. Being able to read these changes makes betting more engaging.

Live

In-play betting in cricket is particularly engaging because the situation changes with every ball. When a wicket falls, the batting team's odds of winning immediately lengthen. A six or a four shortens those odds. If the run rate is high during the powerplay, the odds on target markets also shift.

In an ODI or Test, if a big partnership is building in the middle overs, the odds on the "over" option in the total runs market gradually shorten. This is a signal for in-play bettors. Keep in mind though — the result can change at any moment in a match, so in-play betting can carry high risk.

tk10 app users can place live bets from anywhere. Both Android and iOS versions are available through official channels. See tk10 app details.

Multi Bet — Multiple Selections Together

A multi bet combines the results of several matches or markets into one bet. Because the odds multiply, the potential return is larger — but if any one selection loses, the entire bet is lost.

Multi Bet Example (3 Selections)

Betting on the match winner of three separate matches together, suppose the odds are 1.50 × 1.70 × 1.90 = 4.84 (rounded).
A ৳100 bet could return ৳484 — but only if all three selections are correct.
If one selection is wrong, the full ৳100 is lost.

1

Start with fewer selections

Start with a two-selection multi bet. Adding three or four selections increases the risk quickly.

2

Avoid mixed markets

Putting two related markets from the same match (e.g. match winner and top batsman) into the same multi makes the outcomes dependent on each other.

A Few Practical Tips for Cricket Betting

Betting is for entertainment — keeping that mindset leads to a better experience.

01

Set a budget first

Decide how much you will bet in each session before you start. Do not go beyond that limit even if you lose. You can find the responsible gaming guide on the tk10 site.

02

Choose markets based on the format

In T20, fast-changing markets (such as runs per over) are more suitable. In Test cricket, choose session- or day-based markets.

03

Compare odds

Look at the odds across different markets for the same match side by side. Recognising whether a particular market is offering relatively better odds takes practice.

04

No rushing in live betting

Odds change quickly in-play. Keep a clear head rather than acting on impulse. If you feel pressure to bet fast, stop.

05

Use VIP benefits

If you play regularly, you can join the tk10 VIP programme and receive weekly cashback. There are five tiers from Bronze to Diamond.

Frequently Asked Questions — Cricket Betting

T20 matches are only 20 overs, so odds shift quickly and in-play betting moves faster. ODI has 50 overs, which means more markets are available and odds may change more slowly in the middle stages. There is no draw in T20, but in Test cricket a draw is a separate result. It is best to choose a format based on your budget and patience.

Generally yes — both tournaments offer match winner, toss, top batsman, total runs and live in-play markets. However, the number of specific markets and the depth of odds may vary between leagues. BPL tends to attract more interest from local bettors, so its markets are often more detailed.

Decimal 1.25 means a ৳500 bet returns ৳625 in total — a profit of only ৳125. This is a favourite's odds, meaning the bookmaker considers that team very likely to win. Whether it is good or not depends on your own assessment — betting always carries risk.

During a match you will typically find match winner, next wicket to fall, runs in the next over, total runs over/under, and next boundary markets. In the last five overs of a T20, the odds on these markets change the fastest.

At tk10 you can add multiple selections to a multi bet. The more selections you add, the higher the potential return, but the less likely it is that all of them will be correct. Example with three selections: odds 1.50 × 1.70 × 1.90 = 4.84 (rounded), so a ৳100 bet could return ৳484 — but if even one selection is wrong, the entire bet is lost.
